Training for your School
"Jen was an outstanding instructor. She was able to clearly explain and appropriately pace a large amount of content and information. She was warm and welcoming at every session and so patient. I felt that I was able to ask questions in an open, safe, and encouraging environment. This has been one of the highlights of all my professional development as an educator.”

“Jen was so warm and inviting to all the attendees in the course, regardless of where they were in the field and what level of familiarity they had with OG and phonics. It was clear that she had robust knowledge and skill on the topic and her flexibility to answer questions and draw comparisons between different schools of thought was a notable strength.”
About Me
My name is Jen Tavello

I am a the Fellow (F/OGA) with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
A Fellow or F/OGA has attained the highest level of certification through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham (including all prior levels of certification) and may train and prepare teachers for application at the various levels of OG certification. In the history of the Academy there have been 280 Fellows, and there are only 90 Fellows practicing in the world at this time. It takes approximately 1000 hours of coursework, practicum, training adults, and teaching students to be eligible to apply for the Fellow level, and it takes about 8-10 years for each candidate to fulfill these requirements. Once requirements are met, the Fellow candidate creates their training materials, presentations, and practicum requirements based on the Academy guidelines and submits this for approval and certification.

I graduated from Salve Regina University with a B.A. Elementary and Special Education. I then received my Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph. I holds a Connecticut teaching certification in both elementary education (grades 1-6) and special education (grades K - 12). I have worked as a public school special education teacher for 15 years. My interest in how to best teach all areas of reading led me to the Orton-Gillingham Academy. I have used the OG approach with students for 10 years. I currently work in a public school and oversee the OG training and instruction within the school district.
In addition, as a Fellow of the OGA I provide accredited Orton-Gillingham training word-wide.
